Alexander Mcqueen Resort 2011

I'm sure that this long-awaited collection will garner tons of reviews, criticisms or love. Whether positive or not, i personally think that it still portrays the extravagance that was Alexander Mcqueen, albeit on a more subtle note.

It is undeniable that some prolly had doubts about Sarah Burton, although she was a long-time colleague and right-hand design aide of Lee. Yet we must acknowledge that there really isn't anyone that can just hop in place to fill Lee's big shoes and i believe that Burton did try her best to produce a "creation of modern, beautifully crafted clothes (that) was at the heart of Lee's vision."

Although im not loving the design of the black and gold dresses, i guess the colour combination makes up for it. On the whole, I admit im sold, thanks to the femininity of the uneven-hem dress in nude and the flowy bright-red chiffon gown in contrast with the sharpness of the other pieces. I also see more "wearable" pieces in this collection tbh.

Of course, this collection pales in comparison to the Alexander Mcqueen Spring 2010 collection that was, phenomenal. But really, it's going to take a lot of magic for anyone to create something more extraordinary than what Lee did there.

For me, viewing this collection is like trying to savour a sweet after having a mint. The sweet may be a bit lack-lustre compared to the explosion you experienced having the mint earlier, but you still can't help but love the taste of the sweet coupled with the refreshing after-taste of the mint that lingered. Lee would be proud. [:
